The second and final day of the European Group Show And Precision Championships 2018 took place in Lleida’s Barris Nord pavilion. A prestigious event that demonstrated the excellent state of European artistic skating and enabled its main stars to present their bid to shine at the Barcelona 2019 World Roller Games.
After the Group Show competition in the Youth, Youth Quartets and Junior Precision categories on Friday, CP L’Aldea had to settle for second place on the winners’ podium in Small Groups, behind Italy’s Portogruaro Division. Their compatriots from the Roma Roller Team completed the podium with an ode to ‘Leonardo Da Vinci’ that capped off a full day for the Italian fans, who indeed made themselves felt in the stands.
Transalpine success was even maintained in the first competitions on Saturday. The choreography by Neovis entitled ‘The Beginning of the End’ earned first place in Quartets, ahead of the surprising Portuguese ‘boy band’ The Project and Catalonia’s Foment Cardoní. The trend was to continue to the tune of ‘The Godfather’ with the victory of the Monza Precision Team in the same category.
CPA Olot was later in charge of breaking Italy’s dominance by winning the big prize of the day with its brilliant success in the category of Large Groups. Captained by award-winning Anna Quintana, the Catalan skaters performed ‘Without Options’ close to perfection. A demanding piece that brought the Barris Nord crowd to its feet –the grandstand even ended up making a wave– and helped them to beat Italy’s Royal Eagles and Diamante, which pipped CPA Girona and its surprising ‘Here I Am’ by just three tenths of a point. The competition for the Barcelona WRG promises to be simply spectacular.
