The teams taking part in the Roller Derby competition at the World Roller Games 2019 now know their competition schedule for the qualifying phase of the event, which is set to be held in Mollet del Vallès from 9 to 13 July.
According to the draw held this Monday in Barcelona, the first day of the men’s competition will open with a double session of the following matches: Australia-China, Japan-USA, Spain-Australia and China-Japan. While the women’s category will see the following matches played: China-Australia, India-Spain, USA-China and Australia-India. Here you can find all the matches of the qualifying phase.
The schedule draw was attended by Carmelo Paniagua, President of the WRG 2019 Organising Committee and Royal Spanish Roller Sports Federation, as well as members of the Spanish men’s and women’s teams Jordi Lino and Mònica Piosa, who were responsible for pulling out the balls.
Both Lino and Piosa agree: “We think we have a chance to win gold.” But they warn that the USA is starting as favourite in both the men’s and women’s categories.
The Roller Derby competition comprises an initial qualifying phase in which the top four teams will reach the semi-finals. The men’s and women’s finals and third-place matches in both categories will take place on 13 July and the entire competition will be held in the Riera Seca municipal sports centre in Mollet del Vallès.
