Free practice has started in the Front Marítim. The speed track, one of the great attractions of these World Roller Games 2019, has today received 9 of the 59 teams that will fight for gold starting on July 7th. France, India, China, Taipei, Spain, Colombia, Switzerland, Germany, Venezuela and Italy have inaugurated the innovative installation which is next to the Parc del Fórum. Located on an asphalt land of 147x80 meters and around 12,000 m², the oval track has a 200 meter rope. Also, it is located in front of the sea, an unusual feature for these types of events.
Johana Viveros, several times world champion and one of the great strengths of the Colombian team, said that "this is a completely different track than what we are used to. We came with a lot of expectation, since we always skate on asphalt tracks. But the whole team has had very good feelings and it's great that it's next to the sea. It is quite curious and we love it. It’s been said that when the temperature increases it is possible that the sensations change a little, but surely we will adapt. We are here to become champions." Colombia, which participates in the speed competition with 32 athletes -the largest delegation-, is one of the favorite teams to take most of the podiums of the discipline.
On the 4th, 5th and 6th of July the teams will start the official training sessions and on the 7th the competition will start. The track trials of the installation will take place between July 7th and 9th and the circuit ones on the 11th and 12th of July. The World Speed Championship will be completed with the 100 meters (Passeig de Gràcia, July 13th), one of the great sporting events that have been celebrated in Barcelona in recent years; and the Marathon (Av. Diagonal-P. Gràcia, July 14th), that will close the competition.
