In July 2019, Barcelona will once again become the sports of the world with the second edition of the World Roller Games, comprising the eleven World Championships of the various roller sports disciplines regulated by the World Skate International Federation. With just over a year to go before the event, four national representatives of the first gold medals at the World Roller Games 2017 were today recognised by the organising institutions of the event at a sports trophy competition that also promotes Barcelona throughout the world: the Banc Sabadell Barcelona Open – 66th Conde de Godó Trophy.
The men’s and women’s rink hockey teams, CPA Olot and speed skaters Ioseba Fernández and Patxi Peula were all recognised. Pau Bargalló (captain of the Spanish men’s rink hockey team), Tasha Lee (captain of the Spanish women’s rink hockey team) and CPA Olot team members Mireia Morera and Maria Regueiro collected a commemorative award on behalf of their teams at the Barcelona City Council stand. The awards were handed out by Marta Carranza, IBE sports commissioner; Santi Siquier, territorial representative for sport in Barcelona of the Catalan Government’s general secretariat of sport; Daniel Laga, of the Barcelona Provincial Council; Ramón Basiana, FCP president, and Carlos Feriche, deputy to the RFEP presidency. Ioseba Fernández and Patxi Peula were finally unable to attend the event, the former for family reasons and the latter because of a competition, but Carlos Feriche, representing the RFEP, collected the awards on their behalf.
During the event, Marta Carranza emphasised "the excellent results achieved by these athletes at the first edition of the World Roller Games 2017, a major event that will be held in Barcelona in July 2019. As organizers of the event, we are proud of the institutional consensus that we have achieved, working very closely with all public institutions".
