The Barcelona Provincial Council served as the venue this Thursday to set up the Territorial Committee of the World Roller Games to be held in Barcelona in July 2019. The Committee is made up of the Barcelona Provincial Council, Catalan Government, Catalan Roller Sports Federation, WRG Organising Committee and various partner city councils.
The meeting was chaired by Maite Fandos, Councillor for Sport of the Barcelona Provincial Council, and included the presence of various figures, such as Santi Siquier, Territorial Representative in Barcelona of the General Secretariat of Sport; Daniel Laga, Sports Coordinator of the Barcelona Provincial Council; and Benjamí Pons and Albert Cucarella, Vice President and Manager, respectively, of the Catalan Roller Sports Federation, as well as trustees of the WRG Foundation.
Various officials from the event’s organising team, such as Marc Caballé (Executive Director), Maria Moltó (Sports Director) and Josep Maria Santos (Head of Operations), participated in the, which was also attended by mayors Josep Monràs (Mollet del Vallès) and Hipòlit Serra (Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà), sports councillors of Igualada (Rosa Maria Plassa), Vic (Josep Maria Roca) and Terrassa (Eva Candela), and technical officers or sports managers of Sant Cugat del Vallès (Marisa Santamaria), Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (Andreu Simon), Vilanova i la Geltrú (Mònica Coll), Rubí (Ismael Aguilera) and Terrassa (Carles Sánchez).
Various collaboration proposals in different areas of activity were agreed upon in the meeting and Maite Fandos highlighted the Provincial Council’s commitment to "major international sports events" and their "positive effect in various fields", as well as their "economic impact". "The entire sports legacy they leave behind is important to attract fans and promote the sport", the Councillor for Sport stated.
