Rink hockey: competition venues and schedule

Jan. 30, 2019

Rink hockey will be one of the star disciplines at the World Roller Games Barcelona 2019, as the city is set to host the men’s and women’s World Championships between 7 and 14 July this summer.

Alongside this top-level international meeting of national teams, two other competitions of this discipline will also be held as part of the WRG 2019: the Intercontinental Championship and Challenger’s Championship. The former will include both men’s and women’s categories, while the latter will be men’s only. Both will also commence on Sunday, 7 July and conclude on Saturday, 13 July, one day before the finals of the absolute World Championships.

The World Roller Games rink hockey matches will be staged at four separate venues: Barcelona, Vilanova i la Geltrú, Sant Cugat del Vallès and Terrassa. The World Championships will be held at the CEM Isaac Gálvez municipal sports complex in Vilanova and Palau Blaugrana in Barcelona. The latter will also host the initial men’s phase and the finals of both categories.

The initial phase and two quarter finals of the women’s World Championship and all the fifth to eighth place matches will be held in Vilanova i la Geltrú, in addition to the women’s Intercontinental Championship, while the men’s World Championship will take place at CEM Rambla Celler municipal sports complex in Sant Cugat del Vallès. Finally, the venue for the Challenger’s Championship will be La Maurina municipal sports centre in Terrassa.

Along with all these senior rink hockey competitions, the World Roller Games Barcelona 2019 will also include the U19 category of the World Championship and Intercontinental Championship, to be held in Vilanova i la Geltrú. There will only be a men’s category in both cases, to be held on the days leading up to the WRG 2019, specifically from 29 June to 5 July.
