The center of Barcelona is already vibrating with the Speed competition that take place this Saturday in Passeig de Gràcia and that will continue tomorrow with the Marathon, coinciding with the closing day of the World Roller Games 2019. This central location has taken over from the facilities of the Front Marítim, where since last Sunday, July 7th, the other events of the Track and Road Speed World Championship have been developed, with mastery of the Colombian skaters.
Passeig de Gràcia, one of the most emblematic streets of Barcelona, hosts this Saturday between 17:30 and 20:30 the 100 meters Sprint competitions in the senior and junior categories, both men and women. The competition zone is located between Rosselló and Provença streets, next to the emblematic building of La Pedrera, one of Gaudí's most unique modernist works. Access to the competition is free and a large influx of people is expected to witness a competition that stands out for its spectacularity.
The Speed World Championship will culminate tomorrow Sunday with the celebration of the Marathon by an urban circuit that runs along Avinguda Diagonal and Passeig de Gràcia. It is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated competitions of the WRG Barcelona 2019 and in which the skaters must complete the 42,195 regulatory kilometers giving five laps to the circuit. The route starts and ends next to La Pedrera (at the confluence of Passeig de Gràcia and Calle Provença) and runs along the Diagonal to the Law School of the University of Barcelona (Av. Doctor Marañón). The race will start at 8.00 with the female category, while the male race starts at 10.00.
For the first time, the Marathon will have Open category, which means that in addition to the professional athletes that represent their respective national teams it also includes federated athletes (senior and junior). About 500 skaters, between professionals and non-professionals, have registered for the event and will choose to win one of the three World Championship medals, as well as the cash prizes awarded. In total, $ 34,000 will be distributed in prizes, 17,000 for each category (male and female): $ 10,000 for the first classified, 5,000 for the second and 2,000 for the third.
Likewise, the Marathon is also the Master World Championship for skaters over 30 years. Around 300 athletes have registered to take part in the category competition and try to get on the podium.
